Individuals

Individuals who are struggling to resolve a wide variety of issues can be seen alone or with family members or partners who can support and participate in accomplishing the goals of therapy. Though the individual is experiencing the symptoms, they are part of a network of relationships that are both affected by and can affect the individual’s efforts to change.

Common concerns addressed includes:

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Adjustment to life change/transition

  • Work related stress

  • Low self-esteem

  • Relationship/family issues

  • Physical/emotional abuse and trauma

  • Grief and loss

  • Adoption and parental divorce issues

  • Financial stress

  • Eating concerns

  • Substance abuse/addiction

  • Coping with physical/medical conditions

  • Aging and elders issues

Couples

Couples therapy is specific to issues within or related to the intimate dyad of a family including people who are partners, those dating, cohabiting, committed to the relationship and/or married, both same and opposite sex. We meet with couples who face issues and challenges and seek therapy as a means of enriching their relationship, resolving their conflicts, improving communication, and/or addressing a great number of other issues. Often couples get stuck in a pattern of interaction that creates and maintains problems. The inability to shift out of that pattern can perpetuate those problems to the point where they become unmanageable or debilitating. Couples therapy offers a way for partners to move past maladaptive and unproductive patterns and communicate in a more effective way.

Common concerns addressed includes:

  • Communication and conflict management

  • Infidelity

  • Parenting

  • Couple formation

  • Anger and hostility

  • Sexual concerns

  • Blended family issues

  • Divorce or separation

  • Co-parenting problems

  • Substance abuse/addiction

  • Premarital therapy

  • Medical challenges

Families

Family issues may be addressed between two family members, or involve the participation of the whole family unit. Family therapy may include, but is not limited to, parents (i.e. biological, adoptive, step-parent), children, grandparents, other extended family members, and/or any other pertinent or relevant member of the household or family unit. Even individual problems can affect all family members; therefore, you and your therapist will discuss who may need to be involved in treatment.

Common concerns addressed includes:

  • Child behavior problems

  • School related problems or academic concerns

  • Divorce or blended family related issues

  • Disagreements about parenting styles

  • Single parent stressors

  • Aging parents

  • Grief and loss

  • Adult children conflicts

  • Parenting unique medical, physical, psychological or biological/neurological concerns in a child

Sports Performance Consulting

The pressure on young athletes to compete and perform at higher and higher levels is constantly increasing. Participation in competitive sports has many undeniable benefits, however, competitive sports can be a stressor for athletes and their families as well. Parents naturally may attempt to influence, support, encourage their child to succeed and unexpectedly find themselves locked in battles with their children and/or their coaches. These tensions can permeate family relationships resulting in stress and conflict and ultimately hindered performance. Often athletes will find themselves unexplainably underperforming or simply wanting a competitive edge over their opponents. Sports performance is a multifaceted problem for athletes of all ages and levels of sport.

Sports psychology is one therapeutic medium that addresses performance related concerns, however, the approach treats only the individual. The therapeutic approach of Strategic Solutions assumes that sports performance and athletic success is supported and maintained by the entire context of the athlete including the dynamics of the team, the coaches, and often the administration in addition to the families of the athlete. The approach to optimizing athletic performance at Strategic Solutions addresses the concerns of the individual athlete, the family system, and all of the relationships surrounding the athlete. Strategic Solutions also provides training and consultation to coaches and teams to assess and develop interventions and strategies that enable coaches to maximize their effectiveness and create dynamics that enable teams to perform to their full capacity.

Common concerns addressed includes:

  • Individual underperformance

  • Team dysfunction/underperformance

  • Performance anxiety

  • General anxiety

  • Depression

  • Bullying/Hazing

  • College Recruitment

  • Disordered Eating/Obsessive behaviors

  • Focus

  • Winning mindset

  • Family related problems
